Who I am
My name is Brad Perry. I am a graduate from Reformation Bible College in Sanford, Florida with a B.A. in Christian Thought. That’s where I first stepped into the depth of Christian history. I learned the importance knowing why I believe what I believe, how these beliefs developed through history, the exegetical approaches to scripture, and a life shaped by thoughtful faith. All of which left a real mark on me, and that imprint will certainly last. This was a great contrast for me coming from a nondenominational background where much of the Christian life was detached from history and a proper reverent approach to all of scripture. Even the difficult parts of it.
Today I work as a carpenter while pursuing a master’s degree in Classical Education at the Templeton Honors College at Eastern University, and am a student at the Ecclesiastical School of Byzantine Music where my study of Biblical Greek continues.
Somewhere between my move back home to Ohio, the steady hands-on work of carpentry, and many thoughts found between conversations, pages in books, and prayers, a further development of my own convictions began. That process eventually led me to an exploration of the Orthodox Church. I’m now a catechumen, learning to see the Christian faith through lenses that are ancient, surprising, and strangely familiar all at once.
This website is simply where I express the “why” behind a Reformed Christian with deep respect for his roots would find himself drawn to Orthodoxy, and why I’ve come to believe that this ancient Church offers the fullness of the Christian life I had been searching for without knowing it. Alongside various thoughts that I am thinking through. These are thoughts not coming from an ordained Pastor or Clergyman, but as a layman pursuing Christ who sincerely desires to seek truth through thoughtful dialogue.
